The Karate Life

A WORKOUT YOU ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO.
And a way to train for life.

You come in after work. You move. You sweat. You hit pads, work with partners, learn something useful, and get out of your head for a while. You leave tired, clearer, and glad you showed up. That is the Karate Life we mean.

Power Karate is our expression of that idea: a fun, challenging adult class that builds fitness, confidence, discipline, useful skill, and a real sense of progress.

A different kind of adult class

Not kids karate.
Not a fight gym.

A lot of adults want to try martial arts, but they do not want to feel out of place in a kids’ program, and they do not want to walk into a room that feels intimidating before they even start.

Power Karate is the third option: a mature, friendly adult class where you can get a great workout, learn real martial arts skills, and enjoy the process without ego or intimidation.

New students get a clear path in. Experienced martial artists still have plenty to work on. Everyone trains at the same goal: move better, get stronger, learn useful skills, and keep improving.

What the training builds

Build strength,
skill, and spirit.

Every class gives you a mix of movement, skill, partner training, and conditioning. You will sweat, learn, laugh, get challenged, and leave with the feeling that you did something worthwhile.

01 / Body

Stronger Body

Get a full-body workout that builds strength, mobility, balance, coordination, cardio, and durability; without staring at a treadmill or counting random reps.

02 / Mind

Calmer Mind

Partner drills teach focus, awareness, timing, and the ability to stay calm when things get uncomfortable; one step at a time.

03 / Skill

Practical Skill

Learn how to strike, move, defend, hit pads, work with partners, keep your balance, and fall safely; skills you can feel improving week by week.

04 / Confidence

MORE CONFIDENCE

Confidence comes from doing hard things in a supportive room. You show up, train, improve, and start carrying yourself differently.

What class is like

Serious training.
Light atmosphere.

Classes are active, focused, and partner-based; but the room is friendly. Some nights are technical. Some nights are sweaty. Some nights are playful. You will work hard, but you should also enjoy being there.

01 / Move

GET MOVING

Start with mobility, footwork, balance, and coordination so your body wakes up and gets ready to work.

02 / Build

Build skill

Learn striking, defense, timing, pad work, and partner drills in clear pieces you can actually practice.

03 / Partner

Work with people

Work with other people so you learn distance, timing, awareness, and confidence; without being thrown in over your head.

04 / Condition

GET A WORKOUT

Build strength, cardio, mobility, and resilience through training that feels more interesting than a normal workout.

05 / Reset

LEAVE BETTER

Finish tired, clearer, and better than when you walked in. Then come back and do it again.

The class & the path

Power Karate
is the class.

You do not need prior martial arts experience to start. Classes are taught in plain English, built around simple drills, and designed so you can understand the movement, feel the difference, and improve over time.

The class

Power Karate

Power Karate is our adult martial arts class in Diamond Bar. It is practical, physical, and partner-based; designed to help adults get in shape, build confidence, learn useful skills, and enjoy training again. Classes include movement, striking, pad work, partner drills, simple throwing skills, conditioning, and controlled contact, all introduced progressively in a respectful training environment.

The method

SHINKENPO

Shinkenpo is the martial arts method behind Power Karate. It gives the class its structure: strong basics, practical partner training, progressive challenge, and respect for the long-term growth of the student. In simple terms, Power Karate is the class you attend. Shinkenpo is the method that guides the training.

Why Power Karate?

POWER IS NOT ABOUT EGO.
It is about feeling capable.

“Power” in Power Karate is not about overpowering other people. It is about building the strength, confidence, and calm to feel more capable in your own life.

You train to move better, stand taller, handle stress better, and keep showing up when things get difficult. The power we train for is not just for the mat. It is for your health, your confidence, your work, your family, and your everyday life.

Your instructor

STEVEN RESELL

Steven Resell has spent more than four decades training, teaching, and studying martial arts across Kenpo, Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Japanese Jujutsu, Judo, and other arts.

But Power Karate is not about collecting styles. It is about helping adults train intelligently, build real skill, and stay in the game for the long run.

Every Power Karate class is taught personally by Steven in a small-group setting, so students get direct coaching, clear progression, and training adjusted for real adult bodies.

Who shows up here

Beginner-friendly.
Not watered down.

Power Karate is built for adults with real lives, real jobs, and real bodies. Some people come in brand new. Some trained years ago and miss it. Some are bored with regular workouts and want something more engaging. Some already train and want a fresh challenge.

01

Complete beginners
For adults who want a serious, respectful place to start — without being thrown into a room full of kids or pushed into contact before they are ready.

02

Returning martial artists
For people who used to train and miss having a place to move, sweat, learn, and sharpen their skills with other adults.

03

Adults bored with the gym
For people who want to sweat, learn, and have fun doing something that feels more alive than reps on a machine.

04

Experienced martial artists
For people already training in another art who want to improve their striking, movement, conditioning, timing, and confidence in partner-based practice.

Before your first class

Common questions,
answered straight.

Do I need experience?
No. Beginners are welcome. Classes are structured so new students can start safely, learn the basics, and build confidence over time. At the same time, the training is not watered down. Experienced martial artists will still find plenty to work on.
Do I need to be in shape?
No. Training will help you get in shape. You should expect to move, sweat, and be challenged, but you do not need to be fit before you start. We build from where you are.
Do you do forms or kata?
No. Classes are active and partner-based. You will spend your time moving, striking pads, working with partners, building fitness, learning balance, and developing practical skill. There are no forms or katas to memorize.
Do we wrestle or roll on the ground?
No. This is not wrestling or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We do practice balance, falling safely, and simple throwing and takedown skills, but you will not spend class rolling around on the ground.
Do I have to spar?
Contact is introduced gradually through pad work, partner drills, timing games, and controlled practice. When sparring is introduced, it is matched to your experience, size, comfort level, and goals.
Is this self-defense?
Self-defense is part of the benefit, but fear is not the focus. We train to become stronger, calmer, more aware, and harder to overwhelm. Those qualities matter in real life, but the bigger goal is building a healthier, more capable martial arts lifestyle.
Is this a sport fighting class?
No. We are not training for competition or cage fighting. We do use partner-based training and controlled contact because martial arts should be felt, not just memorized. The goal is skill, health, confidence, and composure — not preparing for a fight career.
Am I too old to start?
Probably not. Power Karate is built for adults with real jobs, real schedules, and real bodies. Training is challenging, but it is meant to be sustainable, and we have students in their 20s and into their 60s.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable workout clothes, water, and an honest answer to “what are you hoping to get out of this?” That is enough for your first class.
Are there long-term contracts?
No. Month-to-month. We would rather you stay because each class is worth showing up for than because you are trapped in a long-term agreement.
